Message from the Office of the BC Human Rights Commissioner:
On March 25th, 2020, BC’s Human Rights Commissioner Kasari Govender released a statement and FAQ for employers, service providers and landlords to assist with questions that they or their staff, clients or tenants might have in relation to human rights issues during COVID-19. The statement was also designed to provide guidance to help prevent human rights abuses or discrimination from occurring.
We know that there can be much uncertainty when faced with human rights considerations in the context of this public health emergency. This statement is intended to support landlords, employers and service providers (duty bearers under the B.C. Human Rights Code) in upholding the rights protected by the Code. We hope this statement is useful to you and we have created a short survey (3 questions) for you to provide feedback. Your feedback will assist us in developing future materials.
We hope to have responses by April 30, 2020 and look forward to hearing from you. Feel free to answer any or all of the questions in the survey.
