Many sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Workers Compensation Act (“Act“) have associated guidelines. Guidelines are intended to assist with providing ways of complying with the legislation, not to provide exclusive interpretations. Guidelines generally provide information on administrative matters and on technical matters not already addressed by policy.
Periodically, guidelines are updated and new ones added. The following list shows the new and updated guidelines for 2014.
Part 8 Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment
G8.15(1) Prescription safety eyewear – Alternative standards
This guideline has been revised to add an alternative standard acceptable to WorkSafeBC for prescription safety eyewear.
Part 26 Forestry Operations and Similar Activities
G26.21/ 26.22 Faller training – Application
This guideline has been updated by removing reference to a faller challenge process (refer to new OHS Guideline G26.22(7)) and by adding a reference to existing arborist training.
G26.22(7) Forestry operation faller training – Challenge process
This new guideline provides an explanation of the intent and process for challenging the BC Faller Training Standard.
Part 5 Chemical Agents and Biological Agents
G5.3-2 Fire extinguishers (adopted from WHMIS Bulletin #4)
This guideline has been updated to reflect current formatting standards. A regulatory excerpt, purpose statement, and references to other applicable legislation have been added.

This guideline has been updated to reflect current formatting standards. A regulatory excerpt, purpose statement, and references to other applicable legislation have been added. The explanatory note at the end was reworded to more accurately reflect the requirement.
