NAKSUP, B.C. – Peter’s Bros Construction Ltd. has been fined $114,128. 21 after a worker was injured during an explosion and fire at a paving site near Naksup, B.C.

WorkSafeBC attended the highway paving worksite in response to an incident last year. According to the safety organization, the firm’s workers were trying to find a leak in the propane line for the hot-in-place asphalt paving equipment and were using a flame to check for propane leaks.

As one worker lit a torch to ignite a propane burner, an explosion and fire occurred, and the worker sustained serious injuries.

WorkSafeBC states the firm failed to ensure inspection, testing, repair and maintenance of its equipment was done according to standards or manufacturer’s instructions. This was a high-risk violation.
The company was fined on May 8, 2025.

Peter Bros Construction was acquired by VINCI Construction earlier this summer.
