Asbestos Licensing Implementation Update

From WorkSafeBC –>

On January 1, 2024, licensing requirements for B.C. asbestos abatement contractors (employers) will become mandatory.

Starting today, visitors to worksafebc.com will be able to review and download the asbestos licensing guide on the updated asbestos licensing pages. This guide will provide applicants detailed instructions on the process to apply for a licence. WorkSafeBC has provided a summary of requirements and the process for application below, but for more information, see the following:

Asbestos abatement licensing opens September 5

Starting September 5th, Asbestos Abatement Licence applications will open. WorkSafeBC will be encouraging applicants to apply early to ensure they receive their license in time for the January deadline. Applicants will be required to be registered with WorkSafeBC and pay their assessments and administrative penalties.

What is needed to apply for a licence

Applicants will need to be registered with WorkSafeBC and have an online services account. The application process will take about 20 minutes and there is no fee. If an applicant has outstanding assessments and administrative penalties, they should pay them immediately. Having amounts owing to WorkSafeBC may affect the application for an asbestos abatement licence.

Application approval

Once the application is approved, the information will be added to a public registry of licenced asbestos abatement contractors that will be posted to worksafebc.com beginning this Fall.

Licenses are valid for one year and must renewed annually.
