Heat Exhaustion OR Heat Stroke…Know the signs

This is just a friendly reminder.  With the forecast calling for extremely hot temperatures over the next week, we just want to send a quick reminder to ensure you are taking care of yourselves during this time and if you are working outside please take precautions to avoid heat stroke and/or heat exhaustion.

Tips:

  • Drink plenty of water – don’t wait until you are thirsty. 
  • Avoid caffeinated beverages such as coffee, tea or cola. 
  • Sports drinks, fruits and vegetables can help replace sugar, salt and other important nutrients. 
  • Take frequent rest breaks, seek shade or a cool ventilated area. 
  • Wear light-coloured, lightweight, loose-fitting, breathable fabrics such as cotton. 
  • Use plenty of sunscreen and/or wear UV protective clothing to protect against UV light that can cause sunburn or other skin damage.
