Notice of Project – Tower Crane update

Starting October 1, 2024, every employer responsible for crane activity must submit a Notice of Project – Tower Crane (NOP-TC) to WorkSafeBC at least two weeks before crane activity begins. “Crane activity” includes erecting, climbing, repositioning, or dismantling a tower crane and must be done under the direction of a qualified supervisor.

Below is an update on WorkSafeBC’s implementation of the new requirements.

Site binder templates now available

The templates in the Tower Crane Site Binder and the Self-Erect Tower Crane Site Binder are safe work practices and resources to help you demonstrate due diligence in keeping key records of your site-specific tower crane operations.

In collaboration with BC Crane Safety, WorkSafeBC created these site binder templates to help you to comply with the Notice of Project – Tower Crane (NOP-TC) regulatory requirements.

You can find the site binder templates on the BC Crane Safety website.

Resources coming soon

You can find links to these resources on the Tower crane page starting October 1.

Updated OHS Regulation

On October 1, 2024, WorkSafeBC will update part 14 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation with the amendments approved by WorkSafeBC’s board of directors.

New guidelines

G14.73.1 Tower cranes – Qualified supervisor describes the qualifications and competencies necessary to be a qualified supervisor for crane activities,

G14.73.3 Notice of project – Significant changes identifies the kind of information in the NOP that, if changed, would generally be considered a significant change and provides instructions on how to ensure WorkSafeBC receives the new information in writing.

Both guidelines will be available on worksafebc.com on October 1, 2024.
