OH&S Guideline Changes – July to September 2016

Many sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Workers Compensation Act (“Act“) have associated guidelines. Guidelines are intended to assist with providing ways of complying with the legislation, not to provide exclusive interpretations. Guidelines generally provide information on administrative matters and on technical matters not already addressed by policy.

Periodically, guidelines are updated and new ones added. The following list shows the new and updated guidelines for July to September 2016.

Guideline changes effective September 1, 2016:

  • Controlling exposure to environmental tobacco smoke (ETS)
  • Safe outdoor location [ETS]
  • Entry into indoor areas where smoking is permitted

Guideline changes effective August 29, 2016:

  • Use of equipment during inspections
  • Emergency procedures — Emergency plan
  • Open web joists and trusses

Guideline changes effective July 27, 2016:

  • Participation by worker representatives in incident investigations
  • Ladder ratings and selection
  • Underground utilities
