RFR said WorkSafeBC is investigating the incident after one person was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

A construction worker was sent to hospital after falling more than eight metres at a Steveston building on Monday morning.

Richmond Fire-Rescue and BC Emergency Health Services were called shortly before 10 a.m. on Dec. 29 to the Fraser Place Apartments on Seventh Avenue.

Technical rope rescue specialists with Richmond Fire-Rescue assembled a team to help safely remove the patient from the fall area, according to Grant Wyenberg, assistant deputy chief of operations at Richmond Fire-Rescue.

This is done by using rope systems and an aerial apparatus, he explained.

One ambulance with primary care paramedics was called to the scene.

“Paramedics provided emergency medical care to one patient who was transported in serious but stable condition to the hospital,” said Brian Twaites, BCEHS Paramedic public information officer.

No other injuries to firefighters or bystanders were reported.

WorkSafeBC is investigating the incident, according to Richmond Fire-Rescue.
