WorkSafeBC investigating after crane collapses in Surrey

The incident occurred Tuesday at a construction site near 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard

WorkSafeBC is investigating after the boom of a crane appears to have collapsed at a construction site in Surrey.

Axiom Builders said the crane failure occurred during a daily safety check at around 7 a.m. at the site near 105th Avenue and King George Boulevard.

“There were no injuries,” said Dennis Brode, the company’s director of health and safety, in a statement. “WorkSafe is now on-site with a team of inspectors to thoroughly investigate the cause of this incident, and our team will work with them to ensure a comprehensive assessment.”

Axiom is working with Bosa Properties on the Parkway project, a mixed-use community that includes residential towers and office spaces.

WorkSafeBC said it has issued a stop-use order on the crane and in the area around the crane and is sending its investigation and engineering team to the site.
