Backgrounder: Occupational first aid regulatory changes

In April 2023, WorkSafeBC’s Board of Directors approved amendments to Part 3 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, relating to the provision of occupational first aid. These amendments will take effect November 1, 2024, to give employers time to obtain any required first aid training and equipment necessitated by these changes.

Schools and training agencies approved by WorkSafeBC currently offer first aid curriculum. WorkSafeBC will be approving training agencies’ first aid curriculum and providing first aid curriculum that is aligned with the CSA Z1210-17. WorkSafe has two streams of training agencies now, those who provide WorkSafeBC OFA curriculum and those who provide equivalent curriculum. WorkSafe will continue with this model and align to CSA Z1210-17.

The First Aid backgrounder was updated in November 2023 to provide additional details and guidance.
