BCCWITT’s ConnectHER: Journey to Success for Women Apprentices in BC
We have a new initiative to support women apprentices in BC, and we need your support! Our ConnectHER program provides fully funded training, mentorship and community to help women apprentices in BC complete their apprenticeship and to achieve journey status. BCCWITT Career Advancement Bursary deadline on February 2
- Applications for our BCCWITT Career Advancement Bursary closes on February 2: This initiative offers equity-priority tradespeople of all genders with up to $1000 once per fiscal year (April 2024 – March 2025) to fund any part of the expenses related to career advancement, including: accessing training, certifications, networking, and educational opportunities, including tools, travel costs, child care, and more.
- The BCCWITT Project Grant provides up to $5000 in seed funding for Leaders in Trades program participants to organize, coordinate, and host initiatives that promote skilled trades careers to youth and equity priority people of all genders and recruit them across British Columbia. BCCWITT is offering fully funded Mentorship Matters:
- How to be a good Mentor (February 5 from 6-8pm): this workshop is for Level 4 and Journeyperson/RSE. Some Level 3 participants may also attend, depending on their role within a company.
- How to be a Good Mentee (February 12 from 10am-12pm and March 20 from 6-8pm): this workshop is for pre-apprentices and Levels 1 to 3.
These structured mentorship training programs enhance efficient technical skills acquisition on the job and improve safety, productivity, quality, and worker wellness. Each workshop is 2 hours long and delivered online, with approximately 1.5 to 2 hours of pre-work required. Participants will receive a workbook. Fully funded Financial Essentials for Trades Workers at BCIT
BCIT’s Financial Essential for Trades Workers is still accepting participants for their winter online synchronous cohort – taking place Thursdays January 30 to March 20 from 6-8:30pm PST. The program helps trades workers understand how to access the many qualified grants available, manage their money and debt wisely, save for the future, and recognize their financial rights. This course is co-instructed by BC trades personnel Anne Lee (CPA.CA, MPAcc) and Anna Lary (MEd, FSR). Students enrolled in the course receive a tuition subsidy of $594.
