VICTORIA — A new director has been selected for appointment to WorkSafeBC’s governance board.
Effective Dec. 31, Sharon Giffen, who is an actuary, will be appointed as a director of the Workers’ Compensation Board for a term ending Dec. 31, 2027.
Giffen replaces Donald Smith, who was appointed to WorkSafeBC’s board of directors as an actuary in 2018 and was reappointed in 2021, states a release.
The WorkSafeBC board of directors serves as a steward of WorkSafeBC and the workers’ compensation system.
The Workers Compensation Act requires the board includes representation from professionals from a range of fields, including health care and rehabilitation, occupational health and safety, law or law enforcement and an actuary.
Workers, employers and the public interest must also be represented.
