WorkSafeBC Board of Directors Approves Plantar Fasciitis Policy

On October 22, 2015, the Board of Directors approved the addition of policy item #27.36, Plantar Fasciitis, and an amendment to policy item #27.30, ASTDs Recognized by Regulation, of the Rehabilitation Services & Claims Manual, Volume II.

The new policy and the policy amendment come into effect on December 1, 2015, and apply to all decisions made on or after that date.

Plantar fasciitis is one of a number of activity-related soft tissue disorders (ASTDs) recognized as an occupational disease by regulation that is listed in policy item #27.30.  The new policy provides more specific direction to adjudicate claims for plantar fasciitis. It does not name any occupational or non-occupation risk factors or recognize plantar fasciitis as an occupational disease connected to any particular process or industry. Work causation will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration all relevant risk factors.
